For what it’s worth, you guys keep us going too.  We’ve received plenty of messages about the inspiration to live and love differently that sharing Carson’s journey reminds people to choose. 

Good.

Knowing that Carson’s journey matters by receiving your messages and reading your comments gives it purpose.  That’s not consolation at the moment, but it is meaning and hope lives under meaning. 

“I hugged my kid for 10 extra, fully present, totally loving seconds until they wriggled out of my arms saying, “mom, gross””, is just as inspiring as Carson persevering pain or our family navigating the moment.  So, hug your kid, spouse, mom or dad, best friend, for 10 extra seconds and be fully present and fully loving.  Say I’m sorry because the shit we think matters…doesn’t. 

In fact, how about all comments on this post are about a choice you made to love more. Be kind more. Forgive something you wouldn't normally. Not get mad, when mad was easy. Smile. Hug and hold hands.

We are all navigating something so beautifully, wildly unknown and we are doing it together.  And the truth we are discovering together is the magic that love, grace and compassion hold and are waiting for us to remember.  Yes, remember.  We’ve always known, we just forgot. 

A Couple Updates on Carson

A few hard days this week with his body fighting to regain some sense of normal, learn to stand again, while fighting what continues to be profound pain.  It comes and goes.  He’s watching another Marvel movie now (the first black panther), but 7 hours ago the nerve pain was blinding. 

The trauma team continues to evolve their protocols with us.  They’ve been exceedingly frustrating at times, devastatingly human, but mostly empathetic and doing everything in their power.  The pain management regimen changed yesterday without us knowing (WTF) until 11pm.  Carson was in a fair bit of unnecessary pain for 2 hours while we navigated the bullshit in the wee hours. 

Today was a different story where we got a commitment to a new plan and it will not change for the foreseeable future. Will. Not. Change.

Turns out, back to the OR Friday to remove the Wound Vac and further cleanup.  He has so many variables, they decided one more procedure to ensure everything looks good.  Who knows, might take some staples out Friday (Already been three weeks Friday, since his nerve surgery).

Massive progress with Orthopedics.  MRI ordered for the knee to begin eval and our investigation/interview of the handful of surgeons who appear qualified to handle his case.    We’ll know more after the MRI-not yet scheduled, just ordered. 

Don’t yet know about St Louis.  Hoping to get word/direction tomorrow. 

Go hug those kids…or just someone who deserves a hug.  Which is ALMOST everyone by the way.
