I suppose my writing was getting stale and Carson needed to give me new material? Make it to the 5th and 6th paragraph, you'll see.

13th procedure this morning to remove the "Ex-Fix"; the Device that was screwed into his femur above the knee and the tibia below the knee, to hold the leg together since all the ligaments in the knee are gone and the tendons had to be reassembled.

That procedure this morning was a sucess. Carson came out in good spirits and hungry with a new immobilization brace on, but nothing screwed into his leg any longer. And with the Ex-Fix off, he would be able to get an MRI so we could begin planning the knee reconstruction. MRI was to happen right around kick off, or 6pm MDT.

So, food, nap, prepping for some football (Go Seahawks by the way), etc.

What the MRI team didn't know, forgot, didn't read the notes, wasn't communicated (whatever) is that they weren't supposed to take the new brace off Carson's leg in order to conduct the MRI.

When they tried to put the brace back on two things happened. First, Carson said it was the most painful two minutes he's experienced, ever. Second, they disclocated his knee while holding it up in the air tryiong to get the brace back on and didn't know it. They put the dislocated knee back in the brace (poorly I might add) and sent him back to his room in excrutiating pain.

So, Carson sat there for the next 5 hours with this pain. Man he is tough, but pain wears you down. Ultimately, in bed xray (after some good drugs) determined the dislocation (might not be quite the right term, but misalignment such that he is bone on bone-and who cares, it f'ing hurts).

So right now, 11:35pm, the same surgical team from 7:30am this morning came back to the hospital to put Carson's leg back together...again. What I don't know as I write this, whether they need to put the Ex-Fix back on because of what the MRI techs did. The surgeon didn't know either. He told me to not be surprised about anything. It was all on the table.

Either way, Carson is getting discharged from Rehab tonight (Woo Hoo, Right? NOPE), to head back the ICU or Trauma floor.

He was doing so well, making such great progress. He'll get back there.
